In 1836, Thomas Goggin appeared as a witness at the Old Bailey at the trial of Richard Ramsden who was indicted for stealing 16lbs of lard, worth about 8s, from Messrs Jones and Brothers. Thomas worked for them at Fishmongers' Hall Wharf (located about ten doors on the left west from London Bridge) and caught the prisoner stealing the lard. Ramsden was found guilty and sentenced to be transported for seven years.
